8 Nov 2014
Open 10 am - 3 pm. You may have visited open farms, open gardens or open studios in this area. Now you have a chance to find out how to how to make your farm buildings, rural home or business more energy efficient and to save money.
Please note that this event has now finished.
Our event will open three farms on one day in an area extending from the Esk Valley northwards to the coast. This is to the west of Whitby and in the North York Moors National Park. Clicking on the Map tab above shows the area covered.
There will be one guided tour at each venue during the day. These are timed so that it will be possible for you to visit all three. However you are welcome to just turn up at any of the venues at any time during open hours.
If you are a farmer or smallholder or run a rural business such as holdiday cottages you may be interested in ways to heat your bulidings more efficiently or may be interested in renewable electricity generation. The installations featured in the properties open for visiting are mainly of a scale more suited to rural businesses or larger rural homes, but everybody in the area is welcome to visit.
Most homes in this area do not have access to mains gas so have to be heated with expensive oil or LPG. Here is an opportunity to find out about some of the alternatives and how to reduce costs, whatever your fuel. This will also make your home greener.
Please take care during your visits to the farms. Follow any instructions or warnings given by farm owners, volunteers or on signs. There is a strict no smoking policy for all of the farms.
